Sole Gardener – 3 x Private Gardens in South Cambridgeshire
Sole Gardener – Vacancy
One family and three gardens in South Cambridgeshire would like to share a cheerful, experienced, and enthusiastic sole gardener to care for and maintain three very different spaces. The position would suit a self-motivated, knowledgeable plants person with initiative and a hands-on, can-do attitude. The ideal candidate will have good horticultural qualifications and experience in a similar role. A keen eye for detail is essential. They must have a strong knowledge of seasonal horticultural practices, including propagation, and exemplary practical gardening skills. Experience in managing and maintaining topiary, mixed borders, and lawns is essential, as is competence in operating and maintaining the standard range of garden machinery, with spray certificates desirable.
Working hours are full-time, split on a flexible timetable across the three sites, but notionally 3:1:1. Most machinery and tools are provided.
Garden 1: 10acres

This recently landscaped garden in Great Shelford is divided into woodland, wildflower meadows, tree avenues, and orchards. The emphasis will be on maintaining the formal gardens, which feature long, deep herbaceous borders and a rose garden divided by lawns and a rill water feature. There is also a walled kitchen garden with a greenhouse. Additional facilities include a tennis court, a golf putting green, a swimming pool, and a lighting and irrigation system. A newly constructed barn houses all the gardening equipment and storage, as well as an enclosed seating area and bathroom facilities.

Garden 2: 1 acre
Approx. 1 day
This garden in Linton requires specific, general guided maintenance to assist the new owner with a small cottage garden space comprising a vegetable/cut flower plot, poly tunnel, pond and small herbaceous beds and pots. Help will be needed to establish compost areas and revive wooded areas.

The very elderly, frail owner of this garden requires someone to help with small, specific tasks on just one day a week, as an occupational activity, as much as anything.
