Skilled Gardener – Live In – Devon
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and experienced Gardener to take on a newly created, full-time position on a private property in Devon. The client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to take full ownership of the gardens, bringing structure, consistency, and a high standard of horticultural management across the estate.
The property offers an excellent opportunity for a gardener looking to working closely with supportive owners while enjoying a high degree of autonomy. The successful candidate will be responsible for approximately 2.5 acres of gardens, together with a developing woodland area, providing a varied and rewarding scope of work with both practical and creative elements.
A central feature of the property is the productive vegetable garden, which plays an important role within the estate. This area requires ongoing management, planning, propagation, and seasonal development. The client is keen to enhance both the productivity and presentation of this space, making it an ideal opportunity for a gardener with strong kitchen gardening experience, a solid understanding of rotation, and a genuine passion for growing high-quality produce.
The wider gardens comprise a blend of ornamental and informal areas, requiring a proactive and detail-oriented approach to all aspects of maintenance. Duties will include planting, pruning, lawn care, soil management, and general garden upkeep, alongside opportunities to refine planting schemes and introduce improvements over time. The role will suit someone who takes pride in presentation and is motivated to continually enhance the garden’s overall aesthetic and health.
Overall, the gardens offer a diverse and evolving environment, combining productive horticulture, ornamental gardening, and landscape development. This is a role that provides genuine scope for input and influence, allowing the successful candidate to not only maintain but actively shape the direction and character of the gardens over time. In addition, the estate includes a woodland area, planted approximately 30 years ago, which now requires thoughtful management. This includes selective thinning, replanting, and longer-term development to improve its structure, biodiversity, and visual appeal,
The client is seeking a gardener with strong horticultural knowledge and practical experience, ideally gained within private estates or similar settings. A recognised horticultural qualification would be advantageous. This position is particularly suited to an individual ready to take the next step in their career, embracing the responsibility of managing a private garden independently.
The role offers an attractive live-in accommodation, comprising a high-quality, separate two-bedroom flat within the estate. This is suitable for either a single candidate or a couple.
This is a rare opportunity to join a private property at a pivotal stage, offering autonomy, variety, and the chance to take full ownership of a characterful and developing garden environment.
