Live-in | Gardener & Housekeeper Couple | Near Newbury, Berkshire
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and adaptable live-in domestic couple to join a welcoming private household on a beautiful rural property near Newbury, Berkshire. The role would suit a practical and hands-on all rounded gardener with a genuine passion for flowers, productive gardening and the varied maintenance of a country garden and grounds. The housekeeping role will involve part-time duties within the main house, alongside assisting with the gardens and grounds to create a full-time combined position.
The property extends to approximately 20 acres in total, including surrounding fields, with the ornamental and productive gardens forming a more manageable and intimate working environment. The gardens are informal and creative in style, featuring a walled kitchen garden with raised beds, mixed herbaceous borders, lawns, hedges, a cutting garden and areas dedicated to flowers, fruit and vegetables. The owners are passionate about seasonal flowers and enjoy using cut flowers and produce from the garden throughout the year.
This is a varied and rewarding private gardening role involving all aspects of general garden and grounds maintenance. Duties will include lawn care, hedge trimming, weeding, pruning, watering, seasonal planting, border maintenance and the ongoing care of flowers, shrubs, vegetables and productive areas. The successful candidate will also assist with maintaining the cutting garden and supporting the continued development of the gardens alongside the owner, who enjoys a collaborative and creative approach. There is scope for someone with planting ideas and horticultural enthusiasm to contribute suggestions and seasonal projects.
Applicants should have a sound practical knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance. This is a well-rounded hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys a broad mix of gardening responsibilities within a private estate. Candidates should be proactive, organised and capable of working independently, as the owners travel frequently and are away from the property for extended periods.
The housekeeping element of the role will involve approximately 20 hours per week, with a flexible approach required, including occasional weekend work. Duties will include housekeeping, cleaning, laundry and assisting with the care of the dogs. An interest in country living and seasonal produce would be highly desirable, particularly if the successful candidate enjoys preserving produce, making jams or chutneys, which would be greatly appreciated by the owners. Additional support within the gardens and grounds would also be welcomed in order to create a varied and full-time position.
The owners are looking for a trustworthy and self-motivated couple who takes pride in their work and enjoys becoming part of a long-term household team. Longevity and stability are important, and the role would suit someone seeking a long-term position in a supportive and respectful working environment.
The household has two energetic spaniels, therefore applicants should be comfortable around dogs and willing to assist with their care when the owners are travelling.
Accommodation is provided in the form of a two-bedroom apartment located opposite the main house. The accommodation would best suit a couple and one pet. Due to the nature of the role and responsibilities, candidates are ideally required to live on site.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a practical and passionate couple seeking a varied long-term role within a creative and welcoming private household in the Berkshire countryside.
