Experienced Gardener (Part Time) – Private Estate
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable and Experienced Gardener to join a beautiful private property on a part-time basis (2 days per week) near Bordon, Hampshire. This role is open to both PAYE and self-employed skilled gardeners or horticulturists based in the local area. The position offers a competitive hourly rate of £25 per hour.
The gardens extend to approximately 10 acres and have been recently redeveloped to create a diverse and seasonally interesting garden. The property is centred around a large walled garden and includes a well-established orchard, a wide variety of roses, expansive lawns, and thoughtfully designed mixed beds and borders. A tranquil pond provides an additional focal point within the grounds.
The successful candidate will take a lead role in the day-to-day maintenance and ongoing development of the gardens, while also overseeing a part-time junior gardener. This is a hands-on position that requires a strong practical skillset alongside the ability to coordinate and guide others. Responsibilities include planning and organising daily and seasonal tasks, setting clear priorities, and ensuring all horticultural work is carried out efficiently and to an exceptional standard. Strong organisational and communication skills are important, as is the ability to effectively manage, support, and work alongside the junior gardener to deliver the required outcomes.
In addition to supervising and delegating routine maintenance, the successful candidate will be actively involved in all aspects of the garden’s upkeep. This includes propagation, the cultivation of fruit, berries, and vegetables, as well as the pruning and care of fruit trees and roses. A sound knowledge of plant health is essential, with the ability to accurately identify and treat a range of pests and diseases to maintain the overall vitality of the garden.
Applicants should ideally hold a recognised horticultural qualification or have proven experience in a similar private estate or high-quality garden setting. A strong knowledge of plant identification is essential, along with the ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and maintain exceptional attention to detail. This is a physically demanding, hands-on gardening role requiring a high level of fitness and a passion for horticulture.
This Experienced Gardener position offers an excellent opportunity for a skilled and passionate gardener to take ownership of a high-quality private garden and contribute to its ongoing development and presentation in a rewarding part-time role.
