Sole Gardener/Estate Manager required
Experienced Gardener/ Estate Manager required for beautiful 12 acre grade 2* country house and small holding located a few miles from Stratford upon Avon.
The property has extensive grounds comprised of large lawned areas, apple orchard, established formal gardens, mature trees, wildflower areas, kitchen/ herb garden, river frontage, large gravel driveway and grazing for the owner’s flock of rare breed sheep.
The successful candidate must have a high level of gardening experience with excellent plant knowledge and relevant horticultural experience (and qualifications/ certificates where appropriate) and be experienced in the use of a range of power tools/ equipment including chainsaws/strummers/ hedge cutters/ weed spraying/ pest control/ sit-on mowers and standard petrol mowers and any other relevant garden machinery.
The role requires the ability to be able to work unsupervised, plan/ organise all aspects of the work required throughout the calendar year in the gardens and around the estate, managing the planting/ pruning/ weeding and all general garden maintenance. In addition, the successful candidate will also have responsibility for the general maintenance and upkeep of the main house and two rental properties that are contained within the grounds of the estate and accordingly good handyman/ DIY skills are required plus an ability to be able to manage small projects and liaise with any outside contractors such as plumbers/ electricians/ builders as may be required.
The estate is home to a flock of rare breed sheep and also chickens and the successful candidate will also be responsible for all the aspects of caring for both of these together with maintaining the grazing pasture and field fencing/ hedgerow. Previous experience of working with livestock is preferred but not essential as training can be provided but the successful candidate will need to have a good affinity with animals and a caring nature in this regard.
The job is full time, Monday to Friday. Typical hours of work during winter months is 8am to 4pm and during summer months is 8am to 5pm.
Requirements of the role:
- Extensive experience in all aspects of gardening/ horticulture and grounds care
- Ability to work independently/ plan own work schedule
- Experience of all aspects of garden machinery/ sprays/ and basic maintenance of these
- Have good handyman/ DIY skills
- Be physically fit, energetic and enthusiastic
- Be able to supervise contractors/ plan work projects around the estate
- Be confident and kind around animals and willing to carry out all aspects of sheep care
