An attractive opportunity has arisen for an experienced gardener to join a small estate team on a full-time basis, on a beautiful private property near Cirencester in Gloucestershire. This position would suit a hands-on and knowledgeable gardener with excellent attention to detail, a positive attitude and an ability to take ownership of every aspect of a horticulturally diverse garden. Basic garden maintenance is undertaken by other members of staff, leaving the successful candidate free to focus on the finer horticultural aspects of the garden.
The stunning property includes a garden designed by a very well-respected designer and comprises extensive areas of formal lawn, mixed hedges, a kitchen garden, glasshouse, mixed beds/borders, with a wide range of ornamental plants, surrounding paddocks, parkland and mature trees.
Key responsibilities of the successful applicant will include managing and maintaining the formal garden borders, maintaining the planting schemes, preparing and cultivating the vegetable garden, propagation and management of the greenhouse, harvesting and storing fruit and vegetables produced, working alongside a small team around the rest of the estate and on wider grounds projects from time to time, as well as looking after the parkland areas alongside the team.
Applicants for this role will need to demonstrate excellent horticultural knowledge and experience in each of the above areas. Candidates will ideally hold an RHS level qualification at Level 3 or above, though this is not essential if extensive experience can be proven. The successful candidate should have excellent attention to detail and an ability to work well as part of a small estate team. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role.
SALARY: £30,000 – £36,000 DOE
