An idyllic vacancy has arisen for an experienced and skilled Sole Gardener with a proven track record, to assist with the formation of a historic and stunning private garden near Tarporley, Cheshire. This position would suit an energetic and knowledgeable plants person with a creative eye and fine attention to detail. This is a full-time permanent position.

The residence is surrounded by roughly 3-acres of formal gardens, pond, and woodland. The gardens were originally designed by Edward Kemp in 1860, a leading Victorian landscape architect and appear in his 1863 edition of, ‘How to Layout a Garden.’ This original layout is being restored to include a formal sunken garden, rose garden, orchard, glasshouse, a walled, potager garden with trained fruit trees which will grow a variety of organic, fresh produce for the main house such as seasonal vegetables and soft fruit. Also within the gardens there will be mixed perennial borders, lots of topiary and yew hedging, plus a wildflower meadow planned in the Autumn, along with a large, 1-acre pond and new woodland. The successful gardener will be play a key role in realising the creative vision of this incredible design.

The Sole Gardener will be responsible for all aspects of garden care and ornamental horticulture as well as kitchen gardening, propagation, lawn care and maintenance, operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery, species specific pruning and any other horticultural duties that may arise.

Occasionally the Sole Gardener will be required to help on the wider estate, so flexibility within the role is necessary. Additional ad hoc tasks may occur and will include but are not limited to helping set up for any events or functions at the property, pathway clearance, fence maintenance and other such tasks.

The ideal candidate for this role will be knowledgeable and experienced at Skilled/Sole/Senior level, holding a recognised horticultural qualification.
