Skilled Gardener – Gravetye Manor
This is an opportunity to join our small team of skilled gardener at Gravetye Manor to maintain and develop this historic garden.
This 30 acre garden is situated in the Sussex high weald, close to East Grinstead and was the home of Victorian garden writer William Robinson. It has been run as a special occasion hotel since 1958 and over the past ten 12 years the garden has undergone a period of renovation; re planting the historic flower garden, developing the wild garden plantings and restoring the walled kitchen garden to supply the manor’s restaurant.
Department
The Garden Team is made up of 7 full time gardeners who are responsible for maintaining the high standards of horticulture throughout the estate and its continued development. The gardens are one of the hotels unique features and integral part of the guest experience and identity of the organisation
The Role
This is a full time position who will work closely with the head gardener and assistant head gardener in maintaining and developing all aspects of the estate including fruit and vegetable growing, flower gardening, meadow management and renovating areas of woodland garden. As the role develops there will be the opportunity to specialise in areas of the estate
The ideal applicant should have several years experience in the industry, experience in operating machinery and a horticultural qualification. It is also important that the applicant has a passion for plants and gardens.
