Skilled Gardener required

Our client is one of London’s finest private residences, a spectacular Grade II listed 30,000 sqft Georgian mansion, which has undergone a ten-year extensive restoration and meticulous refurbishment. This magnificent property is situated in Southwest London just moments from Richmond Park.

Its three-acre estate has been dramatically re-presented by a celebrated landscape architect and includes extensive lawns, parterres, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders, sunken secluded Italian garden, water features, mature trees and woodland planting, extensive yew hedges and topiary, a championship-standard outdoor tennis court, outdoor swimming pool, paddock, stabling and other outbuildings.

The client also own and manage a number of Award-winning Executive homes in the area, each having smaller but beautifully designed and stocked family gardens, having a range of mature trees, plants and lawns.

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a skilled Gardener to join the team. The successful applicant will report to the Head Gardener and will play a key role in contributing to the presentation and development of one of London’s finest gardens, which is maintained to the highest aesthetic and horticultural standards, as well as helping to deliver the agreed strategies for the short, medium and long-term goals at the other properties.

Candidates must possess good plant identification skills, a thorough knowledge of horticultural practices and a passion to achieve the highest standards. We are looking for someone who is flexible, responsible and proactive, with integrity and discretion. The successful candidate will have a meticulous attention to detail and an ability to effectively plan and manage their time.

Experience of working in a large garden of a similar nature would be advantageous. Duties will include planting, pruning, weeding, lawn maintenance, hedge trimming, leaf collecting, mulching and also occasional upkeep of pathways and hard landscaping.

Ideally you will hold an academic horticultural qualification, such as NVQ or RHS at Level 2 or above. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and other additional qualifications such as CS30/CS31 would be desirable, though not essential. Experience of using and making minor repairs to irrigation systems would also be beneficial, as would experience of maintaining water features, or the ability to carry out machinery maintenance.

The working week is 40 hours, with occasional weekend work. Salary and benefits are subject to experience. A full clean driving licence would also be desirable and all applicants must live within a commutable distance.
