Senior Gardener required

We are looking for a full-time Gardener to undertake care management and development of a private garden in the beautiful village of Upton Grey near Basingstoke.

Package offered

Up to £37,000 gross per year depending on experience and the overall package.

The property has a 7 acre garden within a 40 acre estate. The garden comprises of several different areas including greenhouse and vegetable production, orchard, tennis court, meadows, mature trees, hedging, decorative planting and ponds etc. The new owners would like to further develop the garden and improve the planting and management. They aim to move to using organic techniques and to make the garden a haven for wildlife. This will bring with it exciting new projects.

Duties

The Gardener will have a hands-on role in the daily care of the garden, nursery and vegetable production area. They will work alongside the owners, contractors and a Kew trained horticultural consultant,  This role offers an opportunity to continue the improvement and development of their plant knowledge and gardening skill as well as playing a key role in the development of the garden. They will be passionate and take pride in their work and will maintain and present the garden to a high standard. The duties will include:

• General routine maintenance of the garden.
• weeding.
• deadheading.
• mulching.
• lawn mowing.
• fruit, vegetable and herb production.
• seed sowing.
• plant propagation.
• care and management of herbaceous plants, shrubs, and lawns.
• planting and re-planting where appropriate.
• plant nursery work.

The applicant will need a clear understanding of and working within Health and Safety regulations. Qualifications of RHS level 3 and above will be advantageous. A good level of practical experience will be essential.

Location

The garden is located just outside of Basingstoke in the village of Upton Grey.

Days/Hours

Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm.
