Seeking a skilled and reliable part-time Gardener / Groundskeeper to maintain the gardens and outdoor areas of a small country house estate in Hampshire. The ideal candidate will have experience in gardening, lawn maintenance, and general grounds work, with the ability to work independently and ensure the estate remains well maintained throughout the seasons. The role offers stability through the winter months for a self-employed gardener.

Ownership has recently passed to the next generation who are keen to make some gradual changes to the garden. As such, they would like a candidate who is passionate about their work and could offer advice and a creative contribution, whilst being respectful of the gardens historic roots and the environmental biodiversity. With two lakes and an abundance of wildlife, the estate is a beautiful setting to work in and contribute to.

Responsibilities:

Mowing lawns and keeping grass areas neat.
Watering plants and flower beds as required.
Weeding driveways and plant beds to keep outdoor areas neat.
Planting flowers, shrubs, and trees as needed to enhance the landscape.
Log splitting & piling to maintain a stock of firewood.
Strimming long grass verges and other areas as needed.
Pruning & trimming trees and shrubs for health and aesthetics.
Edging gravel driveway and garden beds when necessary.
Leaf clearing to keep driveways, lawns, and paths tidy in the winter months.
Keeping outbuilding gutters clear to prevent blockages and water damage.
Maintaining water levels for the two lakes, by opening and closing the sluice gate.

Requirements:

Prior experience and references working as a gardener/groundskeeper.

Ability to use gardening tools and machinery comfortably and safely, including ride-on lawnmower and strimmer. (Most necessary machinery provided/maintained by the estate).

Good knowledge of plant life/care and seasonal gardening tasks.

Ability to work independently and take initiative in maintaining the estate’s outdoor areas.

Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Reliable, trustworthy, and respectful of the privacy of the estate and its surrounding tenants.

Job Details:

Start Date: Early-Mid April.
Schedule: 3 days per week
Salary: £21,000 per year (Full time equivalent of £35k).
Location: Private estate situated between Salisbury and Winchester (details provided upon application).
Contract Type: Part-time, permanent with probation period.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

Ideally 2 years minimum experience in estate or large garden maintenance.
Chainsaw certification (desired but not essential).
