Part Time Gardener required
On completion of newly landscaped 10 acre Edwardian site, there will be a vacancy for an
experienced, enthusiastic, cheerful gardener to take on the management, care and maintenance to help deliver the potential of the garden. The position would suit a self -motivated, knowledgeable plants person with a hands on, can-do attitude to work with keen, involved garden owner.
The garden, which is based on the outskirts of Cambridge, sits mainly on chalk. It has been
divided into woodland, wildflower meadows with tree avenues, orchards and formal gardens, consisting of newly planted long formal herbaceous borders, woodland, rose and topiary garden zones divided by lawn and a rill water feature. Additionally facilities include a tennis court, golfing green and swimming pool and a lighting and irrigation system. There is also the fixed intention to provide a full gardeners equipment storage and enclosed seating area and facilities.
The ideal person will have good horticultural qualifications and experience in a similar role. They must have good knowledge of seasonal horticultural practices and exemplary practical gardening skills. Experience of managing and maintaining topiary, mixed borders and lawns is essential, as is competence with the operation and maintenance of the normal range of garden machinery, with spray certificates desirable.
A keen eye for detail with an ability to use their initiative is key as is the ability to communicate with the owners to help develop the garden as a legacy project.
Working hours will be a flexible 3/4 days, approx 25hrs per week, with at least a daily morning presence Monday to Friday. All machinery and tools will be provided and a contact list for other services will be established for any additional requirements such as tree surgery.
Salary: £16 – £19 per hour depending on experience.
