Head Gardener
We seek applications from experienced professional gardeners for the position of Head Gardener on a country estate in Somerset.
Within the estate there are approximately 3 acres of formal gardens surrounding the grade II listed manor house. The gardens command far reaching views of the Somerset countryside and consist of lawns, herbaceous borders, rose beds, terraces, shrubberies and a vegetable garden which includes an area of soft fruit and fruit trees. There is also yew hedging plus many mature trees as well a swimming pool and tennis court. The gardens also boast a spectacular display of daffodils in the spring.
As Head Gardener you will be responsible for supervising 1 other gardener, and together ensuring that the gardens and grounds are maintained to a consistently high standard throughout the year. Candidates must have a high level horticultural knowledge combined with excellent practical skills, be able to plan and prepare both short and long term maintenance and planting schedules, as well as delegate duties, and manage outside contractors as and when required. You should be familiar with the safe use and routine maintenance of typical gardening equipment.
It may also be necessary to do some occasional local driving in the evening, this would be prearranged and a fixed number agreed per year. (A driving licence is therefore essential).
There is 2 bed accommodation, with living room, bathroom and utility room, within a converted stable block available if required. Pets are welcome. A DBS check may be required.
SALARY Circa £40K (depending on experience) + 2 Bedroom accommodation
