The Head Gardener will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the gardens and grounds ensuring that they’re presented to a luxury standard. With a key focus on the overall presentation, maintenance and repair of all outdoor areas throughout the estate.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day presentation and maintenance of all outdoor areas throughout the estate; including the lawns, gardens, greenhouses, and public areas including the car park, woodland, walks and paths, trout fishery and river side.
  • Main daily duties include weeding, pruning, maintenance throughout the gardens to tree shrubs, herbaceous borders, hedges, lawns and fruit and vegetables and general garden duties.
  • Manage the small team of gardeners, ensuring tasks are delegated efficiently and all daily and weekly tasks are completed.
  • Oversee the maintenance and renovation of existing plantings and borders, final preparation and planting up of new projects
  • You will undertake the proper care for a wide range of plants including, planting, division, cultivation, propagation, weeding and mulching, feeding, watering, pruning, tying-in, staking and dead heading.
  • You will work in cohesion with the rest of the Estate team to ensure all outdoor areas of the resort are maintained to the highest standards.
  • You will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the tools and materials used in a daily basis.
  • You will contribute ideas and practical initiatives to improve the overall quality and presentation of the estate grounds.
  • You will engage with our guests, visitors and golf members in a professional, helpful and friendly manner, doing everything to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
  • You will have an awareness of SCHLOSS Roxburghe’s vision, development plans ad strategies.
  • You will work with the Course Manager for support of budgets, spend and advising management of cost-effective methods when possible.
  • To work as a team, supporting and helping each other with developing and operating all aspects of the business.
  • To adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and policies.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings and weekends.

Your Knowledge & Capabilities:

  • You are passionate about the outdoors and the horticultural world
  • You have a fantastic attention to detail and take pride in your work
  • You can organise your own time, multi-task and thrive working in a busy environment
  • You will have good knowledge of plants and vegetables with the ability to undertake all aspects of gardening, grounds maintenance and horticulture
  • You enjoy working in the great outdoors, come rain or shine
  • You are creative and can contribute to planning for future jobs and projects
  • You have a flexible approach to working days, evenings and weekends

Proven Experience/Qualifications:

  • Previous gardening experience of a minimum of 4 years essential
  • Previous Head Gardener or supervisory experience desired
  • Excellent horticultural and plant knowledge
  • Good experience of using garden tools and basic light machinery
