Head Gardener

  • Full Time Live In Live Out PRIVATE AD
  • Dependent on experience & accommodation requirements
  • North Yorkshire

This position is for a full-time Head Gardener for a picturesque garden set in Wensleydale.    The applicant should have some training and/or have experience and practical knowledge of gardening.

There is a large walled Victorian garden with original greenhouses still in working order & we grow a wide range of fruits & vegetables for the house.  The gardens are open twice a year for NGS and occasional small private tours.  We keep chickens, hens, 4 sheep & a couple of pigs, there are flower borders, wildflower meadows, a small orchard for juicing apples & pears.

The garden is part of an estate and although the role is Head Gardener, you will be part of a small estate team, able to help each other.   The work requires a level of flexibility and practicality, for instance repairing and maintaining the greenhouses during the winter months, pruning/tying back roses, planting bulbs, overseeing the swimming pool, etc.
This job would suit someone who has a can-do attitude and is willing to work alongside our very experienced and knowledgeable (now part-time) gardener as he moves towards eventual retirement.
