Head Gardener required

These 10-acre gardens are an excellent example of a traditional private family estate garden and comprise of formal lawns, shrub and herbaceous borders, hedges, a large walled garden used for the production of vegetables and cut flowers, smaller natural ponds, two glasshouses for the production of plants and vegetables for use throughout the year in the main house for the family and guests.

The successful applicant will oversee the daily running of the gardens including any implementation of any future rejuvenation of borders etc and will be leading a small team of four others to motivate, provide guidance, training, and support to provide high standards of work. The role will include general maintenance (Performing routine garden maintenance tasks, such as pruning, weeding, planting, watering, and pest control).

An excellent all-round knowledge not only of horticulture but the safe use and maintenance of garden machinery and be able to manage all aspects related to Health and safety practices in the garden.

Applicants will have previous experience working on a large private family country garden and understand the needs and demands that come of this, have strong horticultural knowledge, excellent leadership and communication skills, proficiency in using garden equipment and tools and a real passion and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of garden presentation.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated and experienced Head Gardener able to lead the horticultural team and ensure the continued excellence of the gardens. The estate prides itself on being 99% organic and is looking to continue and improve the organic approach. In addition, will act as security for the estate particularly whilst the family are travelling and will need to care for the animals from time to time if they are travelling.

The Client is offering a competitive salary, a beautiful and peaceful working environment, as well as a large 1 bedroom, on site accommodation with all bills included. In addition, the role also offers 23 days holiday per year plus bank holidays and a discretionary annual bonus.

The position is based around a 40-hour week with a small amount of weekend work for glasshouse, watering and feeding the chickens.
