English Country Gardeners

Recruiting for the professional gardener since 1989

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Experienced Gardener to work on a beautiful private estate in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. The 10-acre cottage style gardens are set within the grounds of a stunning 1930’s Tudor style house and boast many elements. Split into two halves, the lower half contains formal lawns, and a wide selection of young and mature specimen trees. The top half of the gardens contain a small orchard where a variety of apple, pear and plum trees are grown. Other elements include natural ponds, rose beds, an arboretum, a wildflower meadow and a large display of rhododendrons.

The owners have a real passion for their garden and are looking for an Experienced Gardener to manage and maintain the garden with minimal supervision to a high horticultural standard. The ideal candidate will be a true plantsman, have good plant identification and knowledge of the seasons. Applicants should ideally have a minimum level 2 horticultural qualification and have previous experience working on a private estate. PA1/PA6 spraying, chainsaw certificate and driving licence would also be ideal.

The gardener should be happy to work outside in all weathers, have the drive to get the job done to a high standard and a have a vision for maintaining and enhancing the garden as required. With an extensive range of equipment onsite, the successful applicant will be expected to operate a wide range of garden machinery and have good craft skills. Good knowledge in the care and maintenance of trees is essential for the role.

This is an excellent opportunity for a gardener who takes pride in their work and is looking to work with owners who enjoy a beautiful garden. This role offers progression opportunities, potentially leading to a Head Gardener position for the right candidate.
