Website English Country Gardeners

An excellent opportunity has arisen on a beautiful private estate near Hungerford, for an experienced and well-rounded Assistant Gardener.  This role will suit a physically fit and strong gardener/grounds person with a flexible attitude and a desire to work under the direction of a talented Head Gardener.

Recently purchased by the new owners, this quintessentially English country house and grounds of 32-acres comprise a beautiful main house with a coach house and lodge, surrounded by woodland, rolling landscape, a lake, and managed gardens.  The formal aspect includes a greenhouse, specimen trees, expansive areas of lawn, a kitchen garden (with chickens), mixed and herbaceous beds and borders, cutting flowers, a swimming pool and tennis court, gravel driveways, terraces with pot plants and climbers all set within picturesque grassland and woodland that allows privacy on all sides.

Applicants for this role must be physically fit, hands-on, and experienced in gardening/grounds management at an assistant level as a minimum.  An academic horticultural qualification would be beneficial but is not essential, though an ability to operate a chainsaw safely, as well as a range of garden machinery and tools is required.  The role will be physically demanding at times, including heavy lifting. Due to the rural location of the property and the potential requirement for some driving duties, a full driving licence is required of all applicants.

Applicants should be willing and able to contribute to the smooth running of the estate, under the direction of the Head Gardener and in conjunction with the property owners.  Candidates with a willingness and an ability to check and monitor non-horticultural aspects of the house and grounds, i.e., basic swimming pool maintenance, occasional driving duties, estate handyman duties etc. are encouraged to apply.  Discretion is of the utmost importance in this role, so applicants with experience of working for high-net-worth clients are sought.

This is an excellent and rare opportunity for an experienced Assistant Gardener to work alongside a Head Gardener in a stunning private estate on a full-time permanent employed role.

SALARY:        Up to £25,000
