Assistant Gardener required

An opportunity has arisen for an individual to marry gardening skills with conservation disciplines within a beautiful private estate in the Thames Valley near Marlow.

The garden is set in 5 acres with ponds and streams. The planting is on the whole informal and benefits from a large plant collection built up over many years with herbaceous borders, New European style perennial borders, informal wildflower meadows, a kitchen garden and heated glasshouses.

The successful applicant would work in collaboration with the head gardener and small team to maintain and further develop some areas of the garden so needs good practical experience and plant knowledge. This role will suit a recent graduate or more mature person who is enthusiastic and hardworking and over time it is hoped to take on greater responsibility.

In addition, the Assistant Gardener role would encompass involvement in the development of a 200-acrefarm, comprising water meadows, native woodlands and extensive chalk wildflower meadows, which are closely managed for habitat conservation and plant diversity. The estate benefits from the services of various Specialist Conservation Bodies to ensure that habitat improvement continues at optimum level.
