Assistant Gardener
Seek to employ a full-time assistant gardener with some horticultural experience to work with a small team on a private family estate near Wokingham, Berkshire. Applicants for this position must have good plant knowledge and attention to detail, be self motivated with the ability to work alone under direction, and as part of a team, as well as be prepared to learn. Flexibility to assist with non garden based tasks when required. The applicant needs to have some experience of the day-to-day maintenance of a large garden. Approximately 12 acre garden encompassing lawns, hedges, established formal herbaceous and mixed borders, parkland trees and a wide range of deciduous and evergreen shrubs. The role will also include some general groundwork to include clearing of fallen boughs, clearing of ditches and fencing.
Requirements:
- Good plant identification
- Experience and basic knowledge of horticultural practices to include maintaining established herbaceous borders, pruning, pest and disease control, plant division and propagation as well as annual mulching and weed control, compost management, lawn care, formal hedge cutting practices, strimming, leaf sweeping, planting and soil enhancement.
- Horticultural qualification preferred but not essential
- Competence in the operation and maintenance of garden machinery to include strimmers, sprayers, hedge cutters, mowers, garden tractors and trailers, leaf blowers. Chainsaw and spraying certificates (PA1/PA6) a bonus.
8.00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday 28 days annual leave including statutory holidays 3 months probationary period References essential
