Groundsperson for Private House Garden required

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic full-time groundsperson for a private home with a 4-acre garden, situated south of York.  This beautiful garden comprises of extensive mixed borders, lawns, kitchen garden, herb maze, cut flower garden, pleached fruit walks, woodland with specimen trees, a shell house, decorative orchard with espaliered and fan-trained fruit on walls, an Italian Garden, swimming pool and tennis court.

The role requires the candidate to undertake garden and grounds maintenance duties including mowing, edging, hedge-cutting, topiary, leaf collecting, strimming, mulching, weed control (by hand and application of herbicides), seeding, tree maintenance, greenhouse watering, swimming pool maintenance, responsible for vermin control,  ensuring all areas are kept clean and tidy, assisting with garden events and occasional driving duties. Also, some additional tasks as requested (i.e. removal of bins/recycling, bird feeders etc).

The candidate should be an experienced groundsperson with a good understanding of horticulture. You should be competent in the use of garden machinery i.e. lawnmowers, tractors, hedge cutters.  It is essential that you have a full current driving licence, spraying certificate and have experience in maintaining machinery.

You should have experience of working in a private garden, estate environment or skilled outdoor labouring.  The ability to work unsupervised, on own initiative as well as part of a team is essential.  You will possess a positive attitude, are self-motivated, reliable and hard-working.  You are happy to work outdoors in all weathers and to engage in physically demanding work.

This is a full-time position which consists of 40 hours a week Monday to Friday.  Good salary commensurate with experience.  A period three-bedroom house is available at a reduced rent.  Excellent remuneration package after six months probationary period.
