Junior/Assistant Gardener
Enthusiastic Junior or Assistant Gardener sought for parkland, kitchen garden, wildflower areas, woodlands and grounds of a lovely country estate located in West Berkshire. The ideal candidate will have good organisational and self- motivational skills and be able to work on their own initiative and as part of a team.
Alongside routine garden tasks, such as weeding, hedge cutting, planting, pruning and propagation, you will help the owners to site and maintain plantings around sculpture with wildflower and specific planting ideas.
The walled kitchen garden provides vegetables and soft fruit for the House. There are two greenhouses for orchids, lemon trees and propagation. There is an orchard of apples, plums, pears, and cherries.
There are beautiful waterways with waterlilies, bridges and trails to maintain and develop. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, energetic and willing gardener to help further develop the estate and their career.
Other members of staff work in the house, gardens and estate to form part of a team that you would join along with the farm manager. Helpful use of the larger farm machinery makes for easy management of some of the more labour-intensive gardening jobs.
The estate totals 160 acres. There are 10 acres of gardens around the House, a large acreage of amenity land and a smallholding with Highland Cattle. Bees are kept and there is opportunity to learn about beekeeping skills.
Salary dependent on qualifications and experience. Teaching and instruction on use of machinery will be given if required.
There is a spacious centrally heated period Coach House apartment with a hedged garden for sole use. All bills, council tax and Hi Speed Broadband are paid.
Some security duties, dog walking, to be shared with other resident staff.
