Full time sole gardener private garden Surrey/Hampshire border

Due to a retirement an opportunity has arisen for an experienced gardener to help take forward a private garden around a late 17^th Century 2* listed house near Farnham, Surrey.

There have only been 2 gardeners in the last 45 or so years and both have retired from the position.

We would also be interested to hear from ambitious gardeners earlier in their career who are keen to take advantage of an opportunity to make their mark and gain very broad experience.

The garden has a number of ‘historic’ trees and the current owners have been planting a modest arboretum which they are keen to continue particularly of trees and woody shrubs that will do well in a much warmer climate. The garden is run on semi organic and fairly traditional lines: there is a productive veg garden, ancient orchard, wildflower meadow, ponds, snowdrops and bluebells, some herbaceous, topiary etc. Responsibilities include keeping garden to a generally high standard, compost and leaf mould, grass cutting, propagation, pruning  etc.. Ability/willingness to use a chainsaw necessary (certificates helpful and training for this and other areas to be arranged by agreement). Topiary/hedging cut by external contractors.

The owners are keen gardeners, very open to new ideas, and work/help in a very collaborative way.
