Full Time Gardener with 3-bedroom cottage. West Sussex – Sole Charge
An exciting opportunity for a hardworking and passionate gardener, to maintain and develop a beautiful established private garden located in West Sussex next to National Trust gardens.
This stunning 4-acre garden includes herbaceous borders, informal and formal plantings, with formal and informal lawns, walled garden, fruit and specimen trees. The property sits in 127-acres of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Ancient Woodland and SSSI certification.
The successful candidate will be in sole charge of the maintenance and development of the garden and grounds, working closely with employers to enhance the garden, while applying their horticultural skills and abilities.
The position offers a significant degree of autonomy, to develop and implement a shared vision with the owner and responsibility for discrete projects.
Applicants will need to have good horticultural skills and knowledge and importantly must have a keen willingness to work alone while being proactive and energetic.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of plant types and good plant identification skills. Duties will include maintenance of the grounds and gardens to the highest possible standards, therefore experience in the use of basic garden machinery is necessary. Demonstratable knowledge of tree, lawn and plant maintenance is essential, with any horticultural qualifications and tickets such as PA1/PA6 spraying or CS30/31 chainsaw certificates being advantageous but not essential.

The 3-bedroom cottage has 2 double and one single bedroom. Wood floors throughout. Fully fitted kitchen and bathroom. Open fireplace. Access to own private garden area. Storage. Parking. Full access to the estates’ woods and land. Excellent local amenities etc. Our current gardener and his family plus dog and two cats have been with us for 8 years. He is happy to conduct an informal handover.
