Part Time Gardeners required

We are looking for both an experienced and enthusiastic, part-time senior gardener and part-time junior gardener for a private estate near Banbury.

The sizeable property consists of formal gardens, water gardens, woodlands, meadow, kitchen/cutting garden, herb garden and greenhouse.

The Senior Gardener should have an eye for detail, good plant knowledge, excellent practical horticultural skills and previous experience of managing a private estate garden. Appropriate horticultural qualifications are essential. Garden design and flower arranging highly desirable.

The Junior Gardener should enjoy working outdoors in all weather and be physically fit. Eager to learn and happy to follow instructions this is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to work their way towards formal horticultural qualifications.

We are looking for a Senior Gardener who is happy to work on their own, as well as managing the part-time junior gardener but will also be part of a wider team managing the estate.

Responsibilities:

  • Raising plants from seeds or cuttings
  • Digging, planting and weeding, flower beds and borders
  • Looking after the appearance of plants and the surrounding landscape
  • Pruning shrubs and trees
  • Checking the health of plants and controlling pests
  • Cleaning and maintaining gardening equipment.

Specifically the Senior Gardener, will;

  • Order trees, plants, seeds, fertilizers and other materials as required on a routine and regular basis.
  • Organise watering, border maintenance, planting and pruning as required.
  • Maintain the greenhouse and vegetable garden.
  • Undertake regular inspections of the gardens, identifying required works.
  • Maintain written records of the main work performed.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a professional team.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety legislation and regulations and that all work undertaken is carried out safely, including work by contractors.
  •  Identify and participate in appropriate training in order to maintain the requirements of the post, including health and safety.
  • Act in a responsible and professional manner at all times.

Specific Junior Gardener duties

  • Watering, border maintenance, planting and pruning as required.

These are live out positions.

HOURS: A flexible 24 Hours per week/ 3 days
HOLIDAYS: 12 days paid holiday

SALARY UP TO £33,000 pro rata for the Senior Gardener and £25,000 pro rata for the Junior Gardener
