Skilled Gardener
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join a small close-knit team based at a stunning private house and stud farm based in Co. Limerick, Ireland. This role will focus on the maintenance of two walled gardens, alongside lawns and beds that connect the two together. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to reside within the on-site two bedroom / two bathroom farm cottage accommodation, with all utility bills (other than Sky TV) paid for by the employer.
The two traditionally styled walled gardens feature beds, borders, hedges, shrubs and a variety of trees, with the addition of a small greenhouse in the smaller walled garden. Both are currently maintained organically, and this practice is to be continued by the successful applicant. Large lawns and beds separate the two gardens and will also be the responsibility of the skilled gardener.
Our client is now seeking an experienced and knowledgeable gardener who will oversee maintenance and aesthetic appeal of the gardens, having a rounded skillset, alongside attention to detail in order to get the very best out of the picturesque walled gardens. Alongside this maintenance, the role will also include planting, pruning, feeding, and training of a variety of plants and maintaining a vegetable garden. Knowledge of lawn care is required as well as the use and maintenance of gardening equipment.
Applicants must have experience in a similar private setting, and have a positive, hardworking attitude to fit in with the existing team, who have a longstanding relationship with the owners. A relevant horticultural qualification is desirable but not essential, however strong plant knowledge with a focus on organic and environmentally friendly gardening practice is key. The successful candidate will be a conscientious individual who takes pride in their work and has a passion for maintaining beautiful outdoor spaces.
Working hours are 09:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday with flexibility to work occasional weekends if required.
