Sole Gardener – Live In

  • Live In PRIVATE AD
  • £28,000-£30,000
  • Buckinghamshire

A Sole Gardener live-in role, located in North Buckinghamshire.

This is a wonderful opportunity to become part of a multi-generational family community on a historic private estate surrounding a Historical House in rural North Buckinghamshire, located within easy reach of Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard.

This opening would suit a professional gardener with some experience on private estates. The role is live-in and full time.  Our current gardener has been a long term valued employee but is sadly leaving due to ill-health.

The Grade II * listed mid-seventeenth century manor house is surrounded by 2 acres of relaxed gardens, within a 250 acre wider park and woodland.  The owners are working with Garden Designer, Jinny Blom to further refine the gardens over the next few years and wish to work with a knowledgeable and hard-working gardener to help realise their plans.

The gardens include lawns, hedging, a walled garden orchard and a courtyard garden. Other elements include an Edwardian greenhouse, a nuttery and a small vegetable patch. The owners have upcoming projects planned, including the development of gravel planting, a small ‘arboretum’ and the restoration of a water garden area.  We are looking for someone who would relish the challenge of developing the garden by working closely with the owner and our renowned garden designer. This role would suit candidates who can help deliver new projects to the highest standards.

The ground maintenance part of the role will be cutting grass on the drives of the estate, overseeing the historic parkland trees. The Sole Gardener will work with outside contractors where necessary for tree work, hedge cutting etc. You will be responsible for maintaining the swimming pool and tennis court.

This is a live in role and you will be responsible for security, particularly when the owners are away. All members of the estate work closely together to create a friendly environment; the owners like to have someone on site at all times for security purposes, therefore this responsibility must be shared amongst those who also live on site. As such, the provision of accommodation is a tax free benefit as it is deemed vital you live on site.

As this is a sole role, applicants must be self-motivated and possess a friendly, positive and flexible attitude towards the estate and their work, such that they are willing to assist with general estate duties as they arise, including some wood cutting for the house, occasional driving, and will occasionally be required to look after the owner’s two small dogs.

Applicants for the Sole Gardener position should have experience of self-managing gardens as well as groundsman knowledge.  A horticultural qualification would be ideal, with chainsaw and spraying qualifications preferable.

The successful candidate will be offered accommodation by way of a two bedroom house with its own front door, sitting room, utility, kitchen and private garden.  All household bills are paid for including heating, electricity, council tax and internet.
