Senior Gardener

  • Full Time Live Out
  • £40,000 - £45,000
  • Berkshire

An exciting new opportunity has opened for a skilled horticulturalist who is looking to work for a dynamic and creative family with a strong commitment to sustainability and respect for nature and an approach to team culture; which holds integrity, empathy and excellence as key values. The family is seeking a highly skilled, passionate and motivated team-playing individual to take responsibility of the management of their gardens at their premises in Windsor and occasionally in Central London when required. The Senior Gardener will play a key role in setting and contributing to a happy and cohesive culture, working closely alongside other team members and the family.

The gardens are organically managed with a strong emphasis on sustainability and knowledge in this area is essential.  Expertise in formal and informal garden maintenance and a comprehensive knowledge of different plant species and their care is fundamental. The role will include regular maintenance of the grounds including lawns, wildflower meadows, a wild pond, herbaceous and mixed borders, vegetable garden, cut flower garden and a variety of both young and mature trees. Additional tasks will include cut flower production, propagation and managing a compost system.

Working under the direction of the Principal and Team Manager, and as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing the development, care and maintenance of the gardens and grounds of a country property within Windsor Great Park, as well as overseeing the care of three urban gardens in central London. When attending to the properties within Central London, a company vehicle will be provided and it is estimated you will be required to attend the properties once a month.  You will line-manage a part-time groundsman and other part-time labour as required throughout the season. Applicants will present demonstrable experience within a similar private setting for a minimum of 3 years, have strong plant knowledge and hold a horticultural qualification.

This position would suit a proactive and creative horticulturalist who has demonstrable experience of working within a private estate. The successful candidate will play an active role in managing new planting projects, liaising with specialist contractors, garden designers and the wider estate team. This role would provide a great opportunity for an ambitious gardener looking to progress in their field, with an attractive employment package and training opportunities.
