Head Gardener
An experienced Head Gardener is sought to play a leading role on a stunning and exclusive venue for weddings based in the Cotswolds. The magical gardens were beautifully designed by Julian and Isabel Bannerman and continue to be maintained to an exceptionally high standard. This position would suit a Head Gardener with high attention to detail and someone who takes pride in their work. The vacancy is open to candidates seeking full time or part time employment.
The enchanting countryside sanctuary sits amid 450 acres of private grounds, with the gardens about 3 acres featuring Georgian-style architecture, orangery, sparkling water features, a crumbling ruin, exquisite topiary, yew and box hedges, rose gardens, rose pergola, perfectly manicured lawns, cloisters, archways, a thatched boat house, tennis court. There is also a kitchen garden and a wide range of fruit trees growing vegetables and fruit such as cherries, plums, Rhubarb, apples, pears, artichoke, green beans and much more.
The Head Gardener will be responsible for the day-to-day management and hands on maintenance of the garden. The successful candidate will work alongside a part time and a full-time assistant gardener. The lawns along the entrance roadside and the parking area are looked after and cut by another member of staff.
The ideal candidate will have excellent plant knowledge and experience managing a diverse garden. The venue is set within an organic farm mainly for beef and sheep. The gardens are kept as organically as possible with sprays used on the box hedging. A chainsaw certificate would be advantageous however not essential.
Applicants should be equally passionate, energetic and experienced hands-on professionals. Practical experience with a full range of garden machinery is desired, as well as a full driving licence.
SALARY: £40,000 – £45,000 depending on experience (pro rata for part time)
