Sole Gardener

  • Full Time Live Out
  • Up To £32,000
  • Kent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and knowledgeable Sole Gardener, to join a beautiful and historic property near Edenbridge. This private house is a Grade II listed building dating back to the 16th century and is surrounded by approximately 7 acres of wonderful grounds and gardens, with the owners showing a keen interest in the future development and enhancement of the gardens. This offers the ideal setting for an enthusiastic Gardener who wishes to aid in the development of a beautiful garden in a sole capacity.

The gardens surrounding the main house are incredibly diverse and provide many areas of interest, including formal lawns, manicured yew hedging, lined by herbaceous borders, mature specimen trees and shrubs including many rhododendrons and azaleas and a small orchard, along with two small fields, a tennis court, swimming pool and two large ponds.

The client has recently put the wheels in motion to enhance the gardens, with the assistance of a landscape architect and are in the process of installing new terraces and formal beds around the main house. Future projects include the potential development of a wildflower meadow, a vegetable patch to provide seasonal produce and landscaping around the swimming pool and ponds. The Sole Gardener will be expected to assist in plant selection and planting schemes, working closely with the client to achieve the desired outcome in the development of new areas, while enhancing the existing.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the continued maintenance of the gardens and grounds to a high horticultural standard throughout the seasons, using both their knowledge and horticultural skills to bring the best out of the garden. In addition, applicants will require strong plant knowledge in order to carry out planting throughout the gardens and create planting plans to assist in the enhancement of the gardens.

Applicants will have a strong work ethic, with a willingness to assist in general handyman tasks around the house, garden, and grounds as well as occasional driving tasks where required. Additionally, good interpersonal communication skills are a must, with the ability to work alongside and liaise with external contractors where necessary.

The successful candidate will possess a full driving license, while horticultural qualifications and related tickets such as PA1/PA6 and chainsaw certificates are advantageous but not essential.
