Head Gardener

Experienced Head Gardener required to oversee and manage the private gardens of a large country house in North Oxfordshire.

Accommodation available as part of the employment package and salary to reflect experience.

The gardens are an excellent example of a traditional country estate garden and comprise of formal and informal lawns, shrub and herbaceous borders, hedges, a large walled garden used for the production of vegetables and cut flowers, a large lake and a smaller natural pond, two glasshouses one of which is heated for the production of plants for use throughout the year in the main house as well as for the extensive propagation of plants used in the gardens and National garden scheme open day.

The successful applicant will oversee the daily running of the gardens including any implementation of any future rejuvenation of borders etc. There will also be a requirement to provide both pot plants and floral displays throughout the year as well as assisting with occasional larger functions including a yearly NGS open day.

The applicant must be a hands-on team player who can lead by example whilst also developing the skills of the team of two other full-time gardeners, have excellent all round knowledge not only of horticulture but the safe use and maintenance of garden machinery and be able to manage all aspects related to Health and safety practices in the garden.

The role is a live in position based around a 40 hour week with a weekend rota for glasshouse, watering etc.
