An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced gardener has arisen on a privately owned estate in South Lanarkshire. This role will suit a hands-on professional gardener with proven experience taking responsibility for the maintenance and development of a compact estate garden to a high standard. The development of the kitchen garden is of high importance. The owner wishes to create a garden to be proud of in the grounds surrounding the property.
The gardens at the property have been under light landscaping development over recent years but now require development from an experienced and driven gardener. The property is not open to the public but requires all year round maintenance to ensure that it looks its best when the owner is in residence.
Main Duties include:
- Development of ornamental garden with a focus on edible and medicinal plants.
- Border maintenance and development
- Rose feature improvement, rose wall / arches / borders
- Management of Organic Kitchen Garden
- Orchard maintenance and expansion
- Lawn care and maintenance
The Gardener will work closely with the Estate Manager to ensure the development and maintenance of the garden.
The successful candidate will must hold a current, clean UK driving Licence and have proven experience in maintaining a garden to a very high standard. Relevant qualifications beneficial.
The successful candidate will have excellent plant knowledge, will have at least three years of professional gardening experience. You will have a passion for horticulture, an interest in the history of the estate and future developments. Experience with propagation work and growing fruit and vegetables is essential, alongside strong knowledge of pest and diseases and the use of biological controls. Applicants should be aware of the importance of complete confidentiality regarding their employer and the estate.
This role would suit someone looking for a long-term position with a passion to maintain and develop a very special garden.
Accommodation available by way of quiet 1 bedroom gate house 5 minutes away from the main property. All bills are paid for by the employer.
Salary £28,000. 40 hr week, 28 days A/L.
