Estate Gardener / Groundsperson

Godalming, Surrey – Full time- 40hrs per week

24 days holiday plus bank holidays

An experienced Estate Gardener / Groundsperson is required to assist in the maintenance of a 21 acre of garden surrounding an Arts and Crafts property near Godalming, Surrey.

The garden comprises of formal areas including terraced herbaceous borders and a walled garden. There is an arboretum, mature shrub beds and rock garden as well as specimen rhododendron plantations with woodland surrounding a large pond.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head Gardener alongside one other full-time worker.

The role will primarily be grounds based. Duties to include; grass cutting using a range of machinery, strimming, leaf clearance, building up paths with bark chip. The maintenance of borders and the planting of ornamental trees, shrubs, and bulbs.

Due to the nature of the garden, there are significant watering duties in the summer and an extensive mulching program in the spring.

We are seeking a conscientious, highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic. They should be capable of working both alone and as part of a team.

This position may require occasional driving duties. The successful applicant should be a confident driver with a full UK license.

Essential:

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a Gardener/ Groundsperson
  • Basic plant knowledge.
  • Proven experience in the use and basic maintenance of garden machinery including ride on mowers and compact tractors.
  • Full clean UK driving license.

Desirable:

  • Level 2 Horticulture qualification.
  • PA1 + PA6.
  • Chainsaw certification.
  • Basic DIY/Maintenance skills
