Sole Gardener
A new opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable and experienced gardener, who has a rounded and traditional skillset to maintain a beautiful estate in County Durham. The estate encompasses 40 acres, with formal gardens surrounding the house and wider features such as grazing paddocks, a large driveway and woodland areas, of which the new gardener will be responsible for the entirety.
The gardens are traditional in style, both formal and informal lawns, herbaceous borders, raised beds, box hedging, topiary, and a tennis court. Applicants for this position will have demonstrable experience in a similar estate setting, with an established traditional skillset, strong plant knowledge and identification in order to care for the wide variety of plants located on the estate to the very highest standards.
The successful candidate will be a self -motivated individual who is energetic, organised and has a can-do attitude, presenting a willingness to turn their hand to a variety of tasks across the diverse estate. Additionally, a strong attention to detail is essential, while having a creative eye in order to get the very best out of the existing gardens and develop new areas moving forward.
The possession of a horticultural qualification would be advantageous but is not essential, alongside associated industry certificates such as PA1/PA6 spraying and Chainsaw tickets. A full driving licence and own transport is essential.
Live in accommodation is provided with this position, in the form of a Gardener’s bungalow, which the newly appointed gardener would be required to accommodate. There is the potential for an additional position if required for a partner within the main house, in a domestic capacity.
Working hours for the position are anticipated to be approximately 40 hours a week, averaged out throughout the year being season dependent.
