Experienced Gardener

  • Full Time Live Out
  • £35,000 - £40,000
  • Gloucestershire

Our client is seeking an Experienced Gardener with drive and enthusiasm, who will relish the challenge and opportunity of assisting in the restoration of the existing gardens and creating new diverse areas within the 5-acre gardens, followed by the future maintenance these stunning gardens will require.

The wonderful private Cotswold country house, which is currently undergoing restoration, originated as a rectory before further enlargement. It sits at the centre of the 120-acre estate which features a number of outbuildings, a barn conversion and tenanted properties alongside a large amount of farmland which is managed by local farm contractors.

At current, the 5-acre gardens surrounding the main house are being redeveloped with the assistance of both garden designers and consultants alike. On completion of the works, the main house gardens will be made up of ornamental borders, a newly restored walled garden used for the production of fruit, vegetables and cut flowers, a brand new glasshouse for propagation and house plants, a swimming pool, a man-made lake, woodland gardens, meadows, mature and newly planted parkland, an adventure playground, a tennis court as well as both informal and formal lawns.

The successful applicant will initially be involved in maintaining and improving the gardens that are being retained. Nearing completion of the landscape works, he/she will have an active role in caring for and ensuring the establishment of the new gardens.

Candidates should have enthusiasm and passion to help with the restoration and ongoing establishment of the new gardens and ensure that these gardens are maintained to the highest level. He/she should have excellent communication and personal management skills, be a self-starter and be self-motivated, willing, and able to establish the right working routine to make the garden look its best. Excellent plant knowledge, horticultural skills and experience of organic gardening are essential.

The successful candidate will work alongside a full time Site Manager / Groundsman and a part time Gardener. The role is primarily hands-on; however, it’s expected that he/she oversees and works alongside the existing staff and, as the landscape works are completed, he / she will be involved in recruiting seasonal or part-time help.

The property is a private home where the family resides permanently, alongside their 2 well behaved dogs. There may be a requirement to work occasional weekends if there’s an important family event, however this is infrequent. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced CRB check and must hold a full driving license.
