Experienced Gardener 

A fantastic opportunity for a positive, dedicated gardener to join a growing team on a beautiful private country estate within Leicestershire. The owners are restoring the gardens in line with English Heritage and are in the process of landscaping, planting out new areas to complement the existing gardens and magnificent historic house and estate.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to join the existing gardening team at a time of growth and transformation for the private estate. As a Gardener, you’ll be playing a vital role in ensuring the gardens are wonderful place to spend time in.

Reporting to the Head Gardener you will be part of the small team maintaining the highest Horticultural and Estate standards across the estate and have previous gardening experience. The ideal candidate will be physically fit and mobile, a team player with the ability to work to high standards as well as being effective and efficient when working alone.

You will have an eye for detail and an appreciation that this is someone’s private home, always behaving with discretion and respect.

Candidate Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working on private estates would be advantageous.
  • RHS Level 2 in Horticulture – or equivalent.
  • Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as an excellent knowledge of plants.
  • Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
  • To be happy to work on their own or together with the Head Gardener or interchangeably.
  • A clean, full driving licence.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lawn maintenance
  • Pruning
  • Weeding
  • Border planting and care
  • Watering
  • Ad hoc estate work
  • Orchard care
  • Project work
  • PA1/PA6 spray certificates and chainsaw licenses are desirable but not essential. You will be expected to use various machinery within the role and training will be provided where necessary.

40 hours per week (shorter in winter: 8.30am – 4.00pm, longer in summer: 7.30am – 5.00pm)
