Sole Gardener
An attractive opportunity has arisen for a skilled Sole Gardener on a private property in York. This role would suit an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gardener with excellent attention to detail and a varied skill set.
The property and garden encompass approximately 2.5-acres and comprises a mixture of formal areas with a newly added ornamental kitchen garden, greenhouse used for propagation and vegetable growing, topiary, terraces, low box hedges, herbaceous beds and borders, mature trees, hedges and immaculately managed lawns, with a large flagged sunken garden with pool and fountain. A stone fire pit area, a breeze house and matching round shed have all been built to an excellent standard of workmanship and will require basic maintenance, the latter by way of oiling, as will the wooden garden furniture on the terraces.

The successful applicant will work closely with a garden consultant who visits the gardens fortnightly. The Gardener will benefit from their valuable knowledge and expert horticultural advice, and be willing to work in line with decisions taken by the consultant.
Applicants for this role should have demonstrable experience of gardening to a high degree of detail, with good horticultural knowledge. Experience in plant propagation would be advantageous, and the gardens are kept as organically as possible with minimal use of sprays therefore an understanding of plant pest/disease management is important. Experience and confidence in the operation and basic maintenance of a full range of garden machinery is essential of all applicants.
A specialist contractor assists with lawn management, though the Sole Gardener should have a good understanding and experience in this area in order to maintain immaculate standards of presentation at all times. Applicants should be physically fit and able to work from ladders with a range of petrol-powered garden machinery. Driving licence would be advantageous but not essential.
Candidates must be positive and friendly in character, punctual, discreet, reliable and hardworking, with meticulous attention to detail and tidiness.
