An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Sole Gardener to take on the care and development of the gardens of a private estate located near Ascot, Berkshire. The role requires a skilled and experienced gardener to manage the ongoing maintenance of the grounds while collaborating with the owners to implement creative and long-term improvements. This full-time, permanent position allows the successful candidate to leave a professional and personal imprint on the gardens, transforming them into an extraordinary outdoor space that balances beauty, functionality, and sustainability.

Surrounded by forest, the 1.5-acre gardens surrounding the main property offer a harmonious blend of formal and informal elements, including formal lawns, herbaceous borders, woodland areas, flower beds, and elegant Chelsea-style containers. The grounds are further enhanced by 30 carefully selected specimen trees, with plans to expand this collection in the near future. A particularly exciting aspect of this role involves the creation and development of a kitchen garden, where the gardener will work closely with the family chef to cultivate a diverse range of fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, ensuring an abundant and sustainable supply for the household.

Our client seeks an experienced gardener to help maintain the gardens on a year-round basis following the annual calendar. Applicants will possess extensive experience working in a similar role within a private estate or public garden of importance setting. As such, excellent plant knowledge and technical skills are essential for this position with experience in compost management, propagation, pruning, weeding and rejuvenating beds. A self-motivated, organised individual with a self-start attitude and proven track record of managing a large garden, with a strong work ethic, ability to work to their own initiative and willingness to work to consistently high standards are qualities which are essential for this role. Candidates will be flexible and willing to extend their duties where needed. This is a physically demanding position which requires a fit and strong individual who is comfortable working in all weathers.

General maintenance duties will include but are not limited to pruning, propagating, weeding, edging and compost management. The owners are passionate about their garden and are open to ideas the Sole Gardener will have with regards to the development of the gardens. The house is equipped with garden machinery, which the gardener should be capable of maintaining between services. The owners also have two friendly dogs of which the gardener should be comfortable working around.

For the right candidate a small self-contained annexe is available should the selected applicant wish to live on site.

Please note, the successful candidate with be offered subject to extensive reference checks (both written and verbal) as well as a DBS check. Candidates will also need to provide evidence of qualifications held and hold a full driver’s licence.

SALARY:  Up to £45,000 depending on experience
