Website ecgrecruitment English Country Gardeners

A part-time Gardener is needed to maintain a beautiful and diverse 2.5-acre private garden located between Stockport and Macclesfield. This well-established garden features an intriguing variety of trees, shrubs, rare plants, topiary, a small kitchen garden area, expansive lawns, vibrant borders, and meadow areas. The garden is a blend of formal and informal areas, each requiring careful attention and expertise.

The owners are passionate about gardening but are no longer able to manage the extensive upkeep on their own. They are seeking a dedicated gardener to assist for 1-2 days per week with essential garden maintenance duties, excluding lawn mowing. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working unsupervised, with sufficient gardening knowledge and experience to contribute to both the care and further development of the garden where necessary.

Key responsibilities will include plant care, pruning, and maintaining topiary, as well as ensuring the overall health and beauty of the garden’s diverse plant life. Strong plant knowledge and craft skills in pruning and topiary are essential.

The owners also have a particular interest in maintaining the garden’s informal areas for wildlife and nature conservation. They aim to use minimal chemical sprays, favouring organic gardening practices wherever possible. A candidate with an interest in organic gardening and nature conservation would be a perfect fit for this role, as they would be able to align their gardening practices with the owners’ vision of creating a haven for local wildlife.

In addition to plant maintenance, the role requires flexibility. The gardener should be willing to assist with various tasks, turning a hand to whatever needs doing in the garden to ensure it remains both functional and beautiful year-round. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate gardener who is looking for a part-time role in a stunning and varied garden, offering the chance to make a meaningful contribution to its ongoing care and development.
