Website ecgrecruitment English Country Gardeners

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join a well-respected award-winning company in London. The company has been responsible for numerous very high-profile projects throughout the city for many years and are currently expanding their maintenance arm, leading to an increasing number of high-profile contracts. The company has recently secured a new, long-term, large maintenance contract in North West London. They are seeking an experienced and Skilled Gardener, working as part of the existing site team.  In addition to a competitive salary, the client will generously pay for the travel expenses of the successful candidate.

The 4.5-acre site was re-developed back in 2022 and is open to the public who have exposure to a wealth of horticultural elements to enjoy. Elements within the grounds include an orchard with fruit trees, wildflower meadows, large central pond, nature trails and water features. With over 300 new trees planted across the gardens, the planting palette has been selected to evoke a predominately native woodland character, with aspen, alders and willows by the water’s edge and crab apple, field maple and mountain ash along the southern boundary.  The entrances to the gardens are celebrated with a carefully curated shrub and herbaceous planting mix, with other areas home to specimen shrubs along the boundaries, pictorial flower meadows to encourage wildlife, natural grasses and pond planting such as purple willow and dogwood.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the landscaped areas, ensuring the site remains a beautiful, safe and welcoming environment for visitors. Our client is seeking an individual who is hard-working, knowledgeable, willing to learn and have good time keeping. Candidates will have the ability to work as part of a team or individually under their own initiative.

The responsibilities for this role aim at maintaining the overall health and appearance of the landscaped areas. Regular maintenance activities such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and trimming will be essential to ensure all outdoor spaces are kept in excellent condition. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for watering, fertilizing, and providing general care to plants, shrubs, trees, and lawns to ensure their continued health.

Assisting with the planting of seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees in line with the landscape design plan for the site. The successful candidate will also be expected to identify and manage any pests or diseases, utilizing appropriate methods to maintain plant health. Keeping the site clean and well-organised is crucial, and this includes removing litter and properly managing garden waste.

There will also be a need to carry out basic repairs and maintenance on hard landscaping features such as pathways, edging, and garden furniture. Monitoring and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use and support plant health is another key aspect of the role.

The successful candidate will be expected to adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all. Regular reporting to the Head Gardener regarding the status of the site, including any issues or areas needing improvement, will also form an important part of responsibilities.

Working hours are 07:30am – 16:00pm Monday – Friday.
