Our client is a modern facility, purpose-built in 2016, providing a calm and respectful environment for funeral services. It plays a key role in delivering cremation services for the Northampton area, supporting the local end-of-life care offerings. They are currently looking for a Head Groundsperson to lead a small team responsible for maintaining and enhancing the gardens.

The facility’s Garden of Remembrance is a peaceful and serene space designed for the final resting of ashes and placement of memorial items. In this role, showing respect to grieving families and providing excellent customer care to all visitors is essential. The work environment is structured and operates within a regulated framework, emphasizing strict adherence to policies, procedures, and established protocols.

As the Head Groundsperson, you will be responsible for managing a range of horticultural and grounds maintenance projects. These projects currently focus on crematoria but may expand to include cemetery management pending an upcoming review of bereavement care services in North Northants. Your key responsibilities will include overseeing tasks like planting, pruning, grass cutting, and pest control, as well as applying necessary chemicals such as herbicides and fungicides. You will manage projects from start to finish, conducting site visits, liaising with clients and contractors, and preparing design plans that align with agreed project briefs. In addition, you will contribute to the design, tendering, and construction processes, and be involved in preparing planning submission documents.

To succeed in this role, you should be passionate about horticulture and have strong leadership experience, particularly in managing teams. You will be experienced in working within gardens of remembrance or similar, following horticultural designs for landscaping projects with the ability to interpret specifications, plans and/or drawings for projects or specific work. You will lead a team of four Garden of Remembrance staff and work closely with management to develop the next phase of the gardens, aiming to enhance the facility’s profile and foster a “one team” culture.

Benefits include a competitive salary with a clear career progression path, 28 days of leave plus bank holidays, a time-accrued scheme, and a pension plan with employer contributions. Additional perks include gifts, legal and medical support, sickness pay after three days of absence, and funded training for continuous professional development. You will also work in a supportive environment committed to mentoring and helping you grow your career.
