Skilled Gardener
We are looking for a Skilled Estate Gardener to join a small team working on a beautiful, private estate between York and Harrogate. The estate is a much-loved family home, with established and long-serving staff. It comprises c100 acres including the walled gardens surrounding the 17th century house, glasshouse, vegetable and soft fruit gardens, orchard and parkland.
The Roles
- Directly responsible to the owner, the role is varied, covering all aspects relating to the garden and wider estate.
- Working 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with caretaking and out of hours shared across the team.
Your Skills and Experience
- Experience and good knowledge of horticultural practices including maintaining herbaceous borders, old roses, new perennials, clipped hedges, pruning techniques, pest and disease control, plant propagation, mulching and weed control, compost management, lawn care, hedge/topiary, strimming, leaf blowing, vegetable and nursery growing and soil management.
- Competence in the safe operations and maintenance of garden machinery including strimmer’s, sprayers, hedge cutters, mowers, garden/compact tractors and trailers, leaf blowers.
- Chainsaw and spraying certificates (PA1/PA6) are a bonus but not essential.
- Full driving licence.
- Must have excellent references.
The Package
- A generous salary package is negotiable, depending on experience.
- The start date is flexible for the right candidate.
