Skilled Gardener
Willowhayne Gardens Ltd are looking for an skilled gardener to join their team of 9 like-minded, supportive and dedicated gardeners. www.willowhaynegardens.com
This is a full time position but 4 days per week will be considered for the right candidate. Outlook, punctuality and fitting in with the team are more important than work experience but at least 2 years as a professional gardener is essential for this job.
The ideal candidate will:
- have a uk driving licence and access to a vehicle
- seamlessly fit in to our friendly, hardworking team
- work professionally, minimising disruption and fuss for the client
- be happy to work through all seasons and weather
- be able to confidently identify Alchemilla, Nepeta, Peony and Pittosporum
- be able to describe the difference between summer and winter pruning of a wisteria.
We are contracted to care for large domestic gardens to a high spec. We work across West Sussex but this position is suitable for someone who lives near to Arundel, Chichester, Fernhurst, Pulborough or Storrington.
Our diverse range of gardens offer a variety of gardening styles. From formal topiary, niwaki, parterres and croquet lawns, to kitchen gardens, cutting gardens, orchards, long herbaceous borders, meadows and woodland. There is plenty of opportunity for further professional development, if you wish. R.H.S quals are offered to any staff member that shows willing.
As an employee-focused employer we adapt job roles as life circumstances change, to ensure a healthy work-life balance. Eg as more of the team became parents for the first time we made changes so everyone now clocks off by 3:30pm every day.
We work in teams of 2, 3 or 4 but frequently rotate the teams so we all get to work with each other. A typical day is 7:30am – 3:30pm, as a team, in one large garden. However, some days you may visit two gardens that are near to each other. You will always work alongside a van driver who will supply all tools needed for the day.
