An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and skilled Sole Gardener to take ownership of a stunning family-run private estate garden in Thirsk, North Yorkshire .The estate owners are passionate about the application of organic gardening principles and associated seasonal produce and as such, are looking for a talented horticulturist with experience and enthusiasm in these areas.
The 9-bedroom country house is set within a wider estate of 40 acres with grazing in surrounding fields providing an idyllic backdrop to the classic English country garden itself. The 7-acre garden comprises formal lawns, herbaceous borders, mature trees and woodland shrubs, small pond, a kitchen garden, large vinery and small glass house supplying seasonal produce and cut flowers to the house and a recently renovated formal rose garden.
Suitable applicants will be experienced and qualified horticulturists/gardeners, ideally holding academic horticultural qualifications at Level 3 or higher. Responsibilities will include the management of the above garden features as well as that of the formal lawn care.
Applicants must be personable and presentable with good time management skills and excellent attention to detail. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and be competent in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery. Importantly, a genuine passion for plants and wildlife. However, spray certificates (PA1 and PA6) are required as herbicide is used on driveways, paths and lawn treatments only. A full UK driving licence is necessary as the estate is located rurally.
