Website ecgrecruitment English Country Gardeners

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a sole gardener to develop the gardens surrounding a stunning converted barn in Bolton and occasionally provide support with the client’s portfolio of properties.

The converted barn is surrounded by 16 acres of land consisting of 6 acres of formal gardens, mature trees, a small paddock, stables, an outdoor swimming pool and a summer house. The formal gardens contain extensive yew hedging, a walled garden, formal lawns, wildflower meadows, kitchen garden and mixed and herbaceous borders.

The owners of the property are very passionate about their garden. The garden will host a wealth of plants and shrubs and the owners are looking for someone to really take ownership of the gardens and work closely with the architects and landscapers to achieve the vision. The owners are investing significantly in their garden and following the implementation, the sole gardener will support development plan.

Initially the position is for a sole gardener however, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to recruit as the grounds are developed. The sole gardener will have excellent horticultural and plant knowledge as well as plant husbandry skills. A knowledge of pest and disease control is important with either the knowledge of organic methods or the successful candidate will hold a PA1/PA6 spray certificate.

Applicants will ideally possess a level 3 horticultural qualification plus at least 5 years garden development experience on a private estate. He / She will have good communications skills and the ability to work alongside other staff and oversee contractors. A driving licence and the ability to operate (as well as basic maintenance of) a range of garden machinery would be an advantage.

The position would suit a sole gardener with experience in developing and managing gardens looking for an exciting long-term opportunity.
