A Sole Gardener is sought after to maintain and manage the gardens of a stunning private Estate in a beautiful part of the country in North Yorkshire.

The Estate sits on the site of an 11th century manor and is surrounded by landscaped gardens and a moat. The 1-acre formal gardens contain a vegetable garden, fruit garden, rose & peony garden, solar dome greenhouse, herbaceous borders, extensive lawns, box hedging, ornamental grass with allium and plenty of climbing roses around the entire estate.

Our client is looking for a hand on and driven sole gardener to undertake a range of garden maintenance duties to a high horticultural standard including pruning and training roses, maintaining herbaceous borders, weeding, strimming and hedge cutting. He / She will not be required to maintain the lawns outside of the formal garden as there is another member of staff to maintain these features. The ideal candidate will have the determination and drive to get the job done and a have a vision for maintaining and enhancing the garden as required.

Applicants should ideally have a minimum level 2 horticultural qualification, PA1/PA6 spray certificates, combined with good plant knowledge. You will need to be organised, able to plan and prioritise your work load and work to a high standard. Experience with pruning and training roses and growing fruit and vegetables would be required for the role.

Other requirements for the role are good communications skills, you should be prepared to work outside in all weathers, be physically fit and have the ability to operate a range of garden machinery and good craft skills. There are 11 alpacas on site, therefore someone who would be willing to feed the herd twice a day whilst the owners are away would be an advantage.
