A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join a historic private estate in Devizes, Wiltshire. This opening would suit a gardener with academic horticultural qualifications and demonstrable experience of managing private estate gardens. A generous salary is offered in addition to a two-bedroom cottage on site.
The impressive eight-bedroom main house is framed by an NGS registered, former RHS garden of six acres which is open to the public via private tours in addition to the National Garden Scheme. The diverse 300-year-old garden is currently being maintained by a Skilled Gardener who will be moving on imminently to be closer to family. An Assistant Gardener provides valuable help on a 4-day per week basis and will be on hand to contribute to the garden alongside the new post holder.
The stunning 6-acre garden comprises a wide variety of ornamental plants and flowers including camellia, magnolia, roses, wisteria, expansive lawns, hedges, herbaceous beds/borders, stone terraces, wildflower areas, young and mature specimen trees, a formal pond, kitchen and herb garden, bee hives, fruit trees, pleached hornbeam, with a backdrop of fields and paddocks. The gardens are overflowing with colour during the growing season and attract visitors from a wide area each year via the National Garden Scheme.
The Skilled Gardener will play a leading role in the ongoing management and development of the gardens and must be able to manage their time efficiently in order to ensure an excellent standard of presentation for visitors and the property owners. The ideal candidate will be a positive, knowledgeable and proactive gardener with a thorough grasp of horticulture and good physical fitness. Applicants should have experience in each of the above areas and should hold academic horticultural qualifications, ideally at RHS Level 3 or above/equivalent and/or extensive experience in a similar role.

SALARY: £25,000 DOE + Accommodation
