Senior Gardener
A unique opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable and creative senior gardener to join a beautiful large private Estate near Maidstone, Kent.
This is a new full-time position, a fantastic opportunity to be part of a great team and an exciting long-term development project. The head gardener has recently been appointed to facilitate the development of the gardens and is looking for a senior gardener to work closely with them on developing, remodelling and enhancing the garden to add a modern twist.
The estate covers about 130 hectares of land including 4 hectares of formal gardens surrounding the property. Many of the original features of the formal gardens remain such as a wide variety of mature shrubs, sunken rose garden created in a three-tier structure, large yew hedging, box hedging, parkland, woodland and a pond.
The successful candidate will be hands on, motivated and capable of undertaking all aspects of gardens and grounds work with its physical challenges. He / She will be very organised, and confident in taking on responsibility in the head gardener’s absence. The senior gardener will assist with the supervision of the gardens team and work in collaboration with the rest of the estate team to promote a positive culture.
Candidates should have the relevant experience in horticulture working for private estates with at least 1 years proven supervisory experience. A horticultural qualification and PA1/PA6 spray certificates are required as well as knowledge of health & safety at work. He / She will have the ability to operate a range of garden machinery and have good craft skills. Due to the rural location, applicants will need their own transport and be in possession of a driving licence.
SALARY: £28,000 – £30,000
