Assistant Gardener – Vacancy

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Assistant Estate Gardener to join our small team at a beautifully maintained private estate.

This hands-on position includes a variety of responsibilities.  In this role, you will assist in the greenhouse with planting, nurturing and harvesting plants and vegetables.  You will also operate large ride-on mowers to maintain the lawns and help care for ornamental gardens, including flowering plants, shrubs and trees. Attention to detail and high standards of presentation are essential year-round. We are looking for a team player who is passionate about gardening, eager to learn and adaptable to the estate’s needs.  If you have a strong work ethic and a positive attitude, we would love to hear from you.  

The successful candidate will support the day-to-day management of the gardens and wider grounds.  This is a physically active outdoor role requiring initiative, reliability and pride in workmanship.

What the role involves:

• Preparing beds and borders for planting
• Vegetable growing, crop rotation and harvesting
• Cut flower cultivation and maintenance
• Greenhouse work
• Seed sowing and young plant care
• Planting seasonal bulbs and annual displays
• Lawn mowing using ride-on and pedestrian mowers
• Strimming, edging and lawn detailing
• Hedge cutting (formal & informal)
• Weeding, mulching and border maintenance
• Leaf clearance and seasonal tasks
• General estate grounds duties and support with wider maintenance work when required
• Basic machinery cleaning and upkeep.

The Ideal Candidate we are looking for has solid hands-on gardening experience:

• Is confident operating ride-on mowers and horticultural machinery.
• Has genuine interest in vegetables and cut flower production.
• Is physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all seasons.
• Takes pride in high standards of presentation.
• Is reliable, self motivated and works well within a small team.
