Gardener

  • Full Time Live Out
  • Up to £24,000 DOE
  • North Yorkshire

An opportunity has arisen on a beautiful private estate located near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, for a full time and permanent gardener.

The 3-acre formal gardens slope down towards a pond at the end of the garden and consist of lawns, mixed borders and beds, hedges and trees including fig and apple trees. The garden is part of a wider estate including 5 acres of woodland and farmland.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the general maintenance of the gardens i.e. mowing, strimming, leaf blowing, hedge cutting, pest control, weeding as well as horticultural practices such as planting and some garden developments.  He / She will work to a high standard and should be self-motivated, and able to organise and carry out work unsupervised as this is a sole position.

Applicants should have a demonstrable background in horticulture and have previous experience working on a private estate. He/ She will possess excellent practical skills and a good level of competency in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery.  Academic horticultural qualifications would be an advantage whilst spray certificates (PA1/PA6) and chainsaw certificates are required for the role.

As the property is based on steep slopes, applicants need to be physically fit and active. Other requirements for the role are a positive ‘can do’ attitude and should be prepared to work outside in all weathers and be flexible. A clean driving licence is essential.
